Turmeric Root- Curcumin, an active compound in turmeric, is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity that can promote healing. Like ginger, studies have found that turmeric may have pain-reducing power equal in some cases to that of prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Ginger Root- Ginger can help relieve certain pain that comes with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. In addition to helping relieve pain, ginger may help to prevent some of the side effects associated with conventional painkillers as well.

Calamus Root- Is a common traditional medicinal plant that is used dried, boiled, steeped, smoked or chewed by Aboriginal people as a stimulating tonic and to treat colds, coughs, sore throat, dry mouth, upset stomach, toothache, headache, muscle pain, and other conditions. In Ayurvedic medicine, it is used to improve clarity and sustain the voice — and also to support the throat chakra. Many Naturopaths and herbalists like myself have used calamus root for neurological problems: difficulty concentrating, inattention, memory problems, and “brain fog”, for instance. Additionally, it has been used in cases of trauma to the nervous system which can occur with stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, etc. to reduce symptoms associated with these conditions.

St. John's Wort- St. Johns Wort may be used to ease nerve pain (neuralgia), anxiety, and tension. It may also aid in weakness, stress, irritability, and sleeping issues (insomnia) when taken in other forms like teas and Tinctures.

Eucalyptus leaf- Research suggests that eucalyptus oil eases joint pain. In fact, many popular over-the- counter creams and ointments used to soothe pain from conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis contain this essential oil. Eucalyptus oil helps to reduce pain and inflammation associated with many conditions.
Eucalyptus has a cooling effect on muscles and reduces pain and inflammation.

Clove Buds- Clove oil contains the active ingredient eugenol, which is a natural anesthetic. It helps numb and reduce pain. Eugenol also has natural anti-inflammatory properties. It may reduce swelling and irritation in the affected area.
Also the flavonoids in clove oil have anti-inflammatory agents, these anti-inflammatory properties will help contribute to easing inflammation. Clove oil is an excellent pain reliever for muscle pain and joints.

Birch- Birch essential oil for arthritis and other aches and pains of the muscles and joints is the perfect addition to this blend. Not only is Birch effective against common, everyday aches and pains, but it is superior if not outstanding in providing relief from arthritis joint pain and those deep, spasmodic cramps that only seem to visit in the dead of night. Birch essential oil is an effective anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, disinfectant, astringent, and diuretic, it really shines in its use to combat muscle and joint pain. Bar none, Birch is the oil you want to have to relieve the pain of arthritis, tendonitis, gout, and severe muscle cramping.

Wintergreen- The active ingredient in wintergreen is called methyl salicylate, it is closely related to aspirin and has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. As such, products containing wintergreen is anti-inflammatory and topical pain reliever. Great for achy joints (rheumatism), sore muscles, and lower back pain. Wintergreen when made into an oil or salve and is applied to the skin acts as a “counterirritant” to relieve muscle pain. Counterirritants work by calming irritation which reduces pain and swelling in the underlying tissue.

Lavender- Researchers in a 2015 study found that lavender essential oil can be an effective analgesic and anti-inflammatory. When formulated into an oil or salve Lavender applied topically provided pain relief comparable to that of the prescription medication tramadol.

Sage- Great for pain derived from Sunburn. Sage calms the skin after exposure to UV light and seems to reduce the development of skin redness.

Rosemary- Rosemary is sometimes used to treat muscle pain and arthritis while improving circulation which speeds up healing time. Rosemary oil is known in folk medicine as a pain reliever. Preliminary studies support its pain relief benefits and suggest that it may be more effective than acetaminophen.
